Hellenic Cables-Hellenic Cables achieves certification for dynamic power cable

Newly certified cable to support floating offshore wind energy goals

Athens, 28 November 2024

Hellenic Cables, the cables segment of Cenergy Holdings, announces the successful certification of its dynamic power cable (66kV), ensuring adherence to the highest standards of quality and reliability.

Floating offshore wind is a market that is expected to grow significantly in the years ahead. Hellenic Cables, pursuing its core objective to be a true enabler of the energy transition, has been developing dynamic cable solutions and has achieved certification of its 66kV dynamic cable, which will support the electrical connection of offshore wind turbines in areas where the traditional fixed bottom offshore wind turbines cannot be installed. Moreover, the dynamic cables will pave the way for electrification of offshore platforms using power from floating renewable energy sources, thereby significantly reducing carbon footprints.

The dynamic power cable, rated at 66kV, is designed for demanding floating offshore wind applications. Its robust construction and advanced materials ensure optimal performance and longevity in challenging marine environments. The certified cable meets several stringent standards and benchmarks, including CIGRE TB 862, CIGRE TB 623, CIGRE TB 490, CIGRE TB 722, IEC 63026, and IEC 60840 and the certification process has involved leading industry institutions.

Hellenic Cables is committed to ongoing innovation and excellence. This certification is pivotal in Hellenic Cables’ broader strategy to provide cutting-edge power cable applications for the emerging floating offshore wind market.

Andreas Chrysochos, R&D Senior Manager commented, “We are delighted to receive this certification, which underscores our commitment to quality and innovation. Our dynamic cable is a testament to our engineering excellence and dedication to supporting the renewable energy sector. We look forward to deploying our dynamic cables in the emerging offshore floating power market.”
